It’s a pleasure to meet you!

My name is Kat Macias (it’s pronounced muh-SEE-us). I’m a part of the Cuban and Puerto Rican diasporas and a guest on Cherokee and Muscogee land where I live here in Athens, Georgia! I come from a long lineage of spiritual seekers and leaders. Carrying this legacy, I’ve worked with others to build the communities we most need in the world - including Lefty weekend gatherings, a DC congregation called New Synagogue Project, JVP Havurah Network, the Radical Jewish Calendar, and I even served on the bargaining committee of non profit union. Much of my working life in the last 10 years has been the Jewish social justice field.

I’ve also done some learning! I hold an M.Ed. in Social Justice Education and training as a Movement Chaplain and Spiritual Director. I’m currently on a path toward rabbinic ordination through Shomeret Shalom.
